Changing the nucleotide to build innovation into company DNA
Innovation happens in the right environment, one where people are not only allowed to innovate, but where they are actively encouraged to speak up and bring new ideas to the table.
It might sound like common sense... but it is certainly not common practice.
Building an innovative culture is about far more than a weekend hackathon, bean bags, and Agile methodology…it’s about creating a trusting environment where the quieter voices are heard and there is a safe place and time for staff to fail fast, iterate, adapt, and try again.
GSD has direct experience delivering innovation at both an organisation and city-wide level and has fostered innovation for NZ companies along the way.
While a great idea may come from one part of a company, it’s the cross-functional collaboration between departments and across industries that will breathe sustainable life into these ideas.
Contact GSD today and position your organisation to capitalise on tomorrow’s Eureka moments.
Helping turn an oil tanker like an oil tanker
There’s a popular saying that you can’t expect to steer an oil tanker like a speedboat.
Incremental change is the only way to move a large quantity safely. What many don’t consider is that it takes a lot of experience to even get to the helm in the first place.
I have built a storied career both in central and local government roles and as a private sector contractor. This experience is critical when a change of direction might be the best course of action.
Bringing small and medium back in a big way
New Zealand’s small and medium-sized enterprises are the backbone of our economy. They make up a whopping 96% of all businesses, contribute 60% of the country’s total salaries and wages, and employ 65% of our workforce.
It used to be that such businesses were regularly upheld as the backbone of our economy. Nowadays however, particularly with the focus on ‘bigger, better, faster, more’ in modern society, the value of these companies can feel diminished. The importance SMEs place on ‘getting things right’ is then weakened, with companies toiling on with lessened direction and motivation.
GSD is committed to lifting the maturity and capability of our country’s small and medium-sized businesses. Delivering professionalism and process efficiency is important. Increasing company value and self-worth is vital. In doing so, we will improve the productivity and wellbeing of New Zealand.
